About Our Church
It began in 1973 when two Potlatch churches—one Lutheran and one Presbyterian—joined together to share one minister. Each church kept its own identity, governing board, and style of worship, but they work together to support a minister as well as jointly sponsoring Sunday School, vacation bible school, youth programs, Bible studies, and summer worship services.
Grace Lutheran Church, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, was established in 1906. The church building was erected in 1908 on land donated by Potlatch Lumber Company. Over the years various renovations have been made, including the addition of a full basement in 1965 and a parking lot in 1978, as well as improvements to the sanctuary in 2001.
The Community Presbyterian Church, a congregation of the Presbyterian Church-USA, began in 1906 as an interdenominational Protestant body known as the “Union Church.” A spacious church building was built by Potlatch Lumber Company in 1912. In 1939 the church affiliated with the United Presbyterian Church. In 1951 the original church building was destroyed by fire. The present building was begun in 1952 and dedicated in 1956. An education wing and fellowship hall was later added.
